History

The HUMRC was first established as NEHCRI (Novartis Institute for Tropical Diseases – Eijkman Institute for Molecular Biology – Hasanuddin University Clinical Research Initiative) on Jan 25, 2007 than later transformed as NHCR (Novartis Institute for Tropical Diseases – Hasanuddin University Clinical Research) on 2012 following the independence of Eijkman Institute. The research collaboration addressed three primary diseases subjects – Dengue, Tuberculosis and emerging infectious diseases; and during 7 years of activity, has successfully established a critical core of scientists, scientific cultures and research infrastructures in Hasanuddin University. As the NHCR activities officially closed in 2014, the former dean of Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Irawan Yusuf, officially unveiled Hasanuddin University Medical Research Center (HUMRC), to accommodate and consolidate all research activities in biomedical and health under the Faculty of Medicine. In 2015, Prof. Din Syafruddin, the chairman of the Department of Parasitology in Faculty of Medicine, Hasanuddin University who has long been seconded and leads the malaria research group at the Eijkman Institute, was appointed as the New director of the HUMRC.
