Yusnita Rifai is a Head of Pharmaceutical Chemistry laboratory in Hasanuddin University. She did her master degree at School of Medicine, Flinders University Australia in 2006 under the supervision of Professor Gino Saccone. Then graduated with a PhD in 2011 (Chiba University, Japan), being trained in the laboratory of Professor Masami Ishibashi, Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences. Her research interests focus on three broad areas: Drug Synthesis, Natural Product Chemistry and Biotechnology. She explores unique compounds from either marine or natural resources as anti cancers, anti inflammations and anti osteoporosis. A lot of her work relies on different types of spectroscopy and chromatography instruments. She also makes use wide ranges of synthesis and bioassay systems to further her research. Her works in medicinal chemistry won the Timmerman award in 2013.

In recent works, she has received the 2013 Nasional L’Oreal for Woman in Science fellowship to set up a biosensor diagnostic system for a c-terminal telopeptide detection which determined the earliest stage of bone loss in osteoporosis. This diagnostic system provided better understanding of bone matrix remodeling and of bone markers changing over time. She has also been awarded the 2014 Endeavour postdoctoral fellowship to pursue post-doctoral studies in the laboratory of Dr. Ian Altena and Dr.  Chris Scarlett at the University of Newcastle Australia and currently collaborates with University of Calgary-Canada for the novel salivary peptide feG project and University Sains Malaysia for the GLI inhibitor research. Yusnita Rifai is served as an international conference committee of the world academy of science engineering and technology and participates in several publications as a reviewer.

She published 11 peer-reviewed international journals while presenting either a poster or oral presentations in many annual meetings of Pharmaceutical Society related to the research field. She received grants from Flinders Medical Centre Foundation, Australia (2005), Grant-in-Aid JSPS (The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science), Japan (2010-2011), Grant Young A Award from Chiba University (2010), and Grant Insentif Sinas from Indonesian Ministry of Research and Technology (2012-2013), Patent receiver grant for Uber HKI from DIKTI (2013), Grant Drug Discovery from Indonesian Ministry of Health (2014).

Sitti Wahyuni, MD. PhD.

Epidemiology of Topical Disease Project Leader

Senior Lecturer in Parasitology and Immunology

Biography

After graduated from Hasanuddin University Medical Faculty and finished her duty work at primary health centre, Pusat Kesehatan Masyarakat, Bantimurung, Kabupaten Maros in 1996, Sitti Wahyuni began her carrier as a university lecturer in Faculty of Medicine, Hasanuddin University and was appointed in the Department of Parasitologi. Following year until 2000 she conducted several epidemiology studies in the field of parasitology. In April 2001 she began her doctoral studies as assistant-in-opleiding (AIO) at the Department of Parasitology, Leiden University, the Netherlands to study the relationship between helminth infection and allergy. From 2006-2014 she is working as researcher in Novartis-Eijkman-Hasanuddin Clinical Research Initiative (NEHCRI/NHCR) where she concentrates to study the epidemiology of Tuberculosis and Dengue infections. In 2013, Wahyuni was appointed as coordinator of Hasanuddin University Medical Research.

Alongside regular curricular teaching, Sitti Wahyuni has placed much emphasis into training biomedical and medical undergraduate and candidate of master and doctoral students, not only from Hasanuddin University but also from institutions that affiliated or collaborated with Hasanuddin University

Research interest

Sitti Wahyuni is interested in studying epidemiology-immunology of tropical diseases and the modulation of Helminth, Malaria, Mycobacterium, Dengue and Microbiome into immune system. She also interested to study molecule/protein in order to understand its role in pro- and anti-inflammatory status.
